Got my cdl February 2018 in Florida. Was confirmed with the big wigs of my truck driving school that doing a (Road test) in an automatic would not place a restriction on our cdl as Florida has not passed the law. That we would be grandfathered in...

Just a couple weeks ago Florida DOT sends a letter in the mail saying there is going to be an E restriction placed on my cdl if I don't retest by August 2019.

    Per FMCSA
"If the driver takes the Skills Test in a vehicle that has an automatic transmission, then an "E" no manual transmission restriction is placed on their license."

I did the skills test in a manual and the road test in an automatic.

Did the school tell us this on purpose so we would all have to come back and pay money to retest?

That’s federal, unfortunately. Not much Florida can say.

According to federal, I did my skills test in a manual so I shouldn't have a restriction, right?

You still did the road test in an auto, correct?

    That’s all that matters, IIRC.

You need to road test with a manual also.

We were told right off the bat we’d be testing with manual transmission so we wouldn’t have the restriction.

Your school was telling you bs.
