Hey guys I had a question. On Tuesday I am going to be driving a dump truck with a backhoe trailer. I was wondering if I have to go through the Scales with that. Dose anyone know I have my class a but this is a regular class c license truck and I wasn't sure if I still had to. And if I drive the dump truck alone do I have to go through it. Thanks it might be a dumb question but I was just wondering.

What state is this? Here in Maryland, any vehicle over 5 tons (with some exceptions) is required to pass through scales. With a dump truck and a trailer of any sort I think you would have to go through.

I'm in california one of the more sticker states

Ok, and is this commercial? If yes, then yes you would have to stop through. I got this information from
http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/traffops/trucks/weigh-stations/stopping.htm
"GVWR under 11,500 pounds, unladen weight of less than 8,001 pounds, and open box-type bed not exceeding 9 feet in length -- NO.
GVWR 11,500 pounds or more, unladen weight 8,001 pounds or more, or not equipped with an open box-type bed not exceeding 9 feet in length -- YES." -
It's a open top dump truck, the boss said it's a class c truck so I don't need my class a license but since me never driving a dump truck with trailer and backhoe on it I was just wondering

Sounds good, I think better safe than sorry. Have a good one

In my nook of the universe, the scales are for "all commercial vehicles"
Just be safe than sorry dood...Or go fix that piece of crap right away!!! -
In the modern age, I would guess yes, but I have to laugh.....Years ago, we would simply hook the front bucket over the truck tailgate and exert down pressure, lifting up the front of the machine.....Down the road we'd go, no problems....

There is no way in heck it is a class c truck. Well maybe the truck is I used to own a class c dump truck but once you hook a trailer to it with a backhoe you are most certainly over 26k with a trailer over 10k and thus you need a class a. My backhoe is a medium sized one and it weighs 17-18,000lbs. The trailer weighs around 6,000. The truck is probably 12-14k empty. You likely will be driving a 35,000lb rig. Yes class a, logs, scales, etc just the same as if in a semi.
