I’m not aware of any CDL school that focuses on certain types of freight. The schools typically just get you a CDL. Any type of commodity specific training will come later from the company you work for.
That said, you can (and might as well) go and get a class A license and still drive a class B vehicle, as the class A license will include all lower classes. Then, down the road if you decide to move on to a tractor trailer type of job, you will already have the license.MACK E-6, HiramKingWilliams, Bud A. and 2 others Thank this. -
Dump trucks are seasonal, and having the option of pulling anything helps your marketability as a driver.
Additionally, endorsements add to that marketability hugely.
Class A, with X and T endorsements makes you one of the most desirable drivers there is. There’s not much you aren’t licensed to operate, you’ll get premium pay most places you go, and you’ll have a little more flexibility from dispatch.
You’ll have work when others are sitting idle.
If dump trucks is where you want to be, having the class a with endorsements will only help you.
Most companies with dump trucks also have heavy equipment. They gotta move those machines now and then.
Be the one that can fill in when the primary driver’s off or sick.CalculatedRisk, MACK E-6, Bud A. and 3 others Thank this. -

as for dump work, you may have to walk the ground and apply at the companies.
if the CDL school HAS a placement person, talk to that person in wanting that dump job, they may have leads.
also depending on your location, in the winter time, many dump operators plow for the city, town, state....you can reap more money with lots of over time..i know, i had done that.MACK E-6 Thanks this. -
I see dumps pulling equipment all the time here in FL. Like @TNSquire said, getting your A license will open existing and new opportunities for you. Heck you could learn flatbed and advance to heavy haul if your good at. Construction companies always need someone licensed with tanker endorsements to drive water trucks, haul water trucks or equipment that require hazmat and tanker endorsement. Opens up many doors.
TNSquire Thanks this.
