Rather than wait, I could get my cdl now, and drive dump part time for a buddy. I have read on the forum that the better companies want one year experience. Would local dump experience count towards this? If it counts, I think I would do it.
I have also read here that if you are new, insurance rates are high for getting own authority. Would local dump experience count towards getting better insurance rates if I chose to go that route? This probably wouldn't happen as it has been suggested to be company driver for at least six months.
Thanks

Is it a dump trailer or straight truck? Straight truck experience is not likely to be considered for a T/T job
bergy Thanks this. -
I drove a dump trk for a yr and that did not count as exp. When companies say they want exp they mean 1 full yr of otr exp.Not any different then cdl holders in the military, many companies don't count that trk driving as exp either. You'll more then likely still will have to go out with a trainer and start from ground zero.Don't know about insurance rates though. If trucking companies don't count this as exp don't think insurance companies would either. But its worth finding out.

If i read that correct. Drive Non-CDL dump truck right now. Can get your CDL.
If your buddy is under FMCSA policies. Technically, you can use that for experience when you get a CDL and apply to other places.
Reality though, You need CDL equipment experience.bergy Thanks this. -
That's nice to know. The landscaping and construction companies I drove for was under those policies and that didn't count as exp.I drove a dump trk and a belly dump semi.Hauling dirt, rock in dump and hot tar in the belly dump.

Dump truck experience won't count towards driving a tractor trailer. when I first are driving in 1988 I drove a tri axle dump truck and it did not count towards tractor trailer experience.
