I'm shutting down on the chain up lane in California where the big blizzard is. The noob question: I will need to leave my parking lights on all night. The apu will keep the batteries from dying with the engine off right? I'm an idiot but I have to ask sorry
Dumb question from a noob

I say leave em on if the apu will fire it up when batteries get low.
Unusual circumstances out there this week.
Get you some rest and try in the morning.austinmike, singlescrewshaker and Pamela1990 Thank this. -
i heard that the little gas station/truck stop half way down donners. doesn't let trucks park there anymore.

Your truck should have an alarm to keep from draining the batteries dead. Sure you won’t get a ticket parked there?

The Only DUMB QUESTION Is The One NOT Asked, Specifically Concerning YOUR LIFE!!
One of those Trucks that will not Idle beyond 2-5 minutes??
I drove ONE Truck ONCE (think it was a Mack in '17 or '18), Mail Run, that would not continuously IDLE, shut down at a Rest Area after delivery (off X-13), South Bound I-95, New Jersey one Winter Night and locked Trailer Brakes, set a Briefcase on Throttle pedal at 800 RPM's and had a decent sleep.
I NEVER paid attention to NO IDLING restrictions in Summer or Winter!!
What Type HEATING besides engine?
I've never drove with an APU is why I ask.
dboot01, Please Update!!
Thanks! -
I read, an APU will charge the truck batteries. Not sure leaving the lights on is required, snow will cover them up anyway, maybe for the clearance lights, in case it REALLY snows, But in a blizzard, I doubt anyone, except a snowplow, would come barreling along anyways and off on the side, probably leave the clearance lights on, just in case. And besides, I doubt you'll be in a "chain up" area for long. I know Colorado has no sense of humor in that regard, chain up or tow.

I can't find it, but on Facebook there was a video of the CHP towing a stuck truck through the snow plow berm from the chain up lane. There were several trucks, and they weren't going anywhere!
The answer is do not park in the chain up lane during a blizzard.InTooDeep, D.Tibbitt, Flat Earth Trucker and 3 others Thank this.
