I feel dumb asking this but I'm sure someone knows the answer.
I have an International ProStar. When I first got the truck the two air brake knobs were turned crooked. The knobs were tight but the text wasn't sitting horizontal like they normally do in other trucks I've been issued. I turned them about 90 degrees so the text is displayed horizontally again (I'm weird like that) but now obviously they're not as tight as before and can be rotated a little bit left or right.
..is there a way to either remove and re-attach them or somehow tighten them down how they are now? They're the standard yellow diamond and red stop sign air brake knobs.

Woo! Answered my own question. They're the screw-on type and no matter which way I initially set it on there before tightening it always ends up in the same position so regardless I have 2 tight but ####eyed air brake knobs.

Sequoia, I can identify with that. While I'm not terrible about it, I like to have things "squared away." It won't kill me if it isn't but it just sort of bugs me. I was stuck for a couple of years with a tractor that had the protection valve knobs not straight. I never got them straight, and it never failed to bug me just a bit.
I'm sure some psychologist type would have something to say about that, huh? -
I don't have OCD, I have CDO. It's like OCD but the letters are arranged alphabetically....like they should be!
Yeah looking at the two knobs now I know it's going to bug the heck out of me until I loosen them a bit so they're sitting properly. That was actually one of the first things I did when I got this truck.
..I think I have issues. lolbullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
I am the same way. My cb has to be at the perfect angle, my toggle switches all straight, thank goodness my air supply knobs were straight! Since my truck was 11 years old, the text on the knobs was over 90% worn off...you bet I spent the time with some brake-kleen getting the rest of the lettering off lol.

They sell after market knobs with no writing on them. They are held on there with a wrist pin. If it really bothered you, you could drill another whole where they line up right.
I think it's all how the new knob wears in, is where they settle. They do rotate because they are on a round shaft. You better check the writing on your tail lights. I think the writing is upside down on them too.jk

OK, Sequoia, if you MUST have the knobs perfect, simply put some washers on the threads, enough to line up the knobs when you screw them down.

I can relate to the CDO. You said they are screw on, I've found teflon tape to come in handy in situations like this. Just thread a little on the screws and it will cause the knob to tighten up quicker, thus allowing you to get the words straight and it will still be tight.
