hello all,
I'm looking into DT360 powered trucks but I'm not finding a whole lot. Specifically, I'd like to know
1) what are the best years for the DT360? I'm looking for the most power available with the least amount of onboard electronics (preferably none!)
2) what range of GVWR were available with the DT360 - or were these engines strictly under 26K GVWR?
3) what transmissions came commonly paired with the DT360?
Thanks all!

Go with the big brother DT 466, a lot more of them out there and they’re very easy to work on.
The DT 466 goes up to 300 hp that I know of and you can get it with an Allison automatic or like a six or seven speed transmission. -
I own a older S series International with a DT360 (1988). Has a 5 speed trans with a 2 speed differential. It’s under 26,000 gvw.
Although a good engine, the 466 is more favorable in my opinion.
In my R&L Drilling days we put a lot of miles on DT466 powered trucks. The 1985 model we bought new had over 900,000 miles on it when we retire it, and was still going strong.
The red 86 international I had on the Beam trailer had a 466 as well, but was over 26,000 gvw. It too was bought new…$29,000 in 1986…..

DT's started to go electronic (E series) in '95. Both solid engines, but the 466 is a better engine IMO. Best ones built from '88 -'93 (C series). Early ones were often paired to a 5 speed Clark with a 2 speed rear, then Eaton 6 speed's, later Spicer with the 6+1. In the '80's, even to the early '90's, many came geared lower (4.78) for the 55 mph speed limit still in effect, later ones sometimes were ordered with 4.44 rears..
