My 2017 Cascadia with a DD15 and DT-12 is having a recurring glitch when climbing long grades. Without any obvious warnings, both the ABS and HSA (Hill Start Assist) lights pop on and it defaults into 'MANUAL' shifting mode. It will not come out of manual mode at all. I paddle shift it until I have a nice place to stop. Simply shutting off the truck, with no waiting time resets everything to like it never happened. Go figure. Ah, the age of computers, ECU's, and 1,000 sensors.

    KB3MMX Thanks this.

I like Cascadia's but their electronics have been glitchy for a long time. Every one I've ever driven has had some kind of electronic glitch that it generally takes a Freightliner dealer to fix.

I just had a wheel seal replaced 2017 Cascade and DT12 transmission. After the repair I drove off and got ABS light and Hill Assistance off. I restarted the engine and tried driving and got the same two lights again. The dash display said RAC System failure.. Took truck bash to shop they hooked up computer and the same wheel they just worked on had ABS fault. Wheel speed was not matching the other wheel. They took stuff apart and found a plastic block ABS sensor from the wheel seal job. They did not clean up and working to fast.

It never messed up the transmission but ABS sensor could be part of the problems

    KB3MMX and RustyChops41 Thank this.

Yes, Brandt, I have seen similar troubles, minus the trans defaulting into 'manual' related to bad ABS sensors. Hopefully our shop starts there on their search.

What ended up being the problem? My 2017 Western Star 5700XE Dd15 Dt12 is doing the SAME EXACT thing as yours did. I'm googling now and hoping to get a possible answer.

This is over 5 years later, if you hadn't noticed.
But the suggestion about the ABS sensor might be a good place to start the investigation.

Make sure the truck has nothing plugged in to the ecm or obd. Like a peoplenet box.

Mine was flashing every light available because of a transmission fault. Took kw a week to figure out it was the box.
