I have unplugged the Qualcomm a couple times when it’s gone awol on me and it corrects things, but that’s beside the point.
If I put myself off duty unplugged it and started driving when I go to plug it back in would i get hit with a violation?. The reason I ask is because there are times when I want to unplug it and keep driving. Those times are mainly when I’m headed home. I don’t care about if my company likes me doing this or not I just don’t want a violation in there if I get inspected by dot.

I would then say my eld malfunction so here is my paper logs... just to cover yourself..Coolbreeze Thanks this. -
The Qualcomm keeps a record of “unlogged miles”. We used to occasionally pull the fuse, run an extra hour past lunch, then plug it back in and manually log 2 hrs in the sleeper.
But from what I understand I would have been SOL if I were to get in a wreck, or if during an audit they noticed a pattern of this occurring.
But if you were to do unplug it every few days the unlogged mileage would be crazy high, enough to warrant a closer look by dot imo.brian991219, Tb0n3 and Lepton1 Thank this. -
To the OP.. do you have PC time?

If your company gets audited...and they will...the unplugged ELD time will show up like a red flag. There could be some big fines for that and your boss will probably fire you.
If you get caught in a roadside inspection or a scale and you've obviously unplugged your ELD and there are time gaps you'll get fined plus some major points on your record.
I have a hard time believing that your company allows this. Or have they just not caught on to you yet?Midwest Trucker, brian991219, roshea and 4 others Thank this. -
