I have been researching the schools the in the town I live, Bakersfield Ca, So far the only 2 that had people speaking English on the phones were:

    Pacific Coast Trucking School,
They quoted me $3500 for a 4 week class, mon-fri 160hrs, and they also offered me the option to go to the DMV and study and get my CDL permit to drive local prior to coming to there school and taking a $2000 80hr Driving only course that is designed, for people who want to be local only,

    What is considered local?
Can I not go out of state with that?

    And the other school is:

    Western Truck Driving School,
They Quoted me 3500$ if I pay cash and $4400 If I finance, for 4 week day classes or 5 week night classes.

Both of these schools offer life long job placement. But said the almost exclusively deal with Werner to hire their OTR Students, about 95%-98% go to Werner both schools said, and that Werner will pay me back for my schooling? Any thoughts on that would be welcomed!

Also any info on the schools would be cool.
and do the hours seem right, I keep thinking I heard something about 200+ hrs needed for OTR

    Thanks for you time everyone.

First, to bad you are in Cali. (Inflated prices on everything) Can you not check with the State Employment/Unemployment Agency.? Often times they'll have programs designed to either pay or help pay for the schooling. Some community colleges also offer truck driver training.

Second, you DON'T want to go to Werner.

Do your homework. THere's more out there.

I was told today at the Employment dept, that there are 3 reasons that i can't receive assistance.

    1. I have a post high school education

    2. and am white.

    and
    3. I am not a seasonal Farmworker.

I was told i would have about a 5% chance of receiving any assistance because of these things.
