Hi. Long time lurker here, so I know this is the best place to get good answers to my question.

I'll be attending my son's wedding in South Lake Tahoe. I plan to bobtail from Reno. I have been searching for the easiest way to get there, and the only info I've gotten so far is that there is a low clearance on US-50, but I'm not even sure about that. How about I-80 to Truckee and then CA-89 along the west side of the lake?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks all.

Thanks for your quick answer. I was kinda hoping that route would be OK. My wife will be with me & she drives me nuts on roads with a lot of curves & switchbacks. 89 looks less curvy than 50.

I would rent a car, drive in style for less than 50 bucks to attend my son's wedding. Do them the honor and leave your work truck at the truck-stop.

I would go 395 to Carson City, then 50 to SLT. 50 is 4 lane all the way. Easy road at speed limit the whole way. You don't want to take 89, mostly 2 lanes, tons of tourists. Would take you twice as long or more.

So what about the low clearance? Does it exist?

There are 2 tunnels. There is a 2 lane tunnel for eastbound and one for westbound.Westbound is 12' 4" and 13' on the shoulder but 18 in the middle. Eastbound is 13'7" to 21'. Use google street view and you will see semi going through. Its near Cave Rock/ Lincoln Park

No place to park a truck there unless the church will let you in and park. Better call.

Easy answer, let her walk on those stretches of road!;)
I agree with the car rental suggestion.
