I can't say I've never peed in a bottle but it isn't my first choice. Do people actually do that while they are driving though?

As for the original question, every few hours shouldn't be a problem. If you can't stop every few hours to stretch, pee, thump the tires etc. your bladder isn't the real issue.

it's to your advantage to stop every so often to stretch and do a walk-around and check your equipment. Keep a piss jug for emergencies. Just wait until you have to do #2, like right now! Gotta love that truck stop grub, right?

Do yourself a favor and take a break every 3-4 hours to get the blood pumping in your legs. If you can't drive at least 3 hours between breaks this probably isn't the job for you. That's only 3 stops in an 11 hour driving shift.

Split break 8-2 and one of them can be a 2 hour lunch/shower break that won't affect how soon you get to a customer if you run legal. 2 more 15 minute breaks only add 30 minutes to your day. If you are in a hurry they can be 8 minute breaks allowing you to legally log them as 15 minutes if your company isn't on electronic logs. That makes up for the time it takes to hit a rest area and allows for another 14 minutes of driving time that day.

I'm also an older individual and have had a problem with urgent and frequent urination. I've found two things helpful with this problem: 1) I found that caffeine was a major trigger for my urgent and frequent urination. After some experimentation, I discovered that I could have a cup/glass or two of caffeinated beverages to "wake up" and then immediately switch to non-caffeinated drinks (water, caffeine-free soda, etc.) for the remainder of the day, thereby minimizing the urinary symptoms. And 2) I've successfully used the doctor-prescribed medication Vesicare, which is used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder, such as frequent or urgent urination, and incontinence (urine leakage). Vesicare reduces muscle spasms of the bladder and urinary tract. Note: I found that minimizing caffeine intake was still helpful when using Vesicare. I hope this helps!

This thread cracks me up. :biggrin_25523:

I think I'll fan the flames. I'm just glad I was born a guy, and have this excellent time-saving option available to me. I aint crapping in no Walmart bag though.

ORG- never say never - OTR life happens and toliets and woods are NOT always available-having a pail and bags handy may be a lifesaver some day.
Easy for you guys driving to use a bottle-I want to know what the lady drivers do? A jug while driving is JUST not physically possible.

This thread really has gone down the crapper:biggrin_2559:

I take olddog's question seriously. What some people may not know is that an overactive bladder condition will cause bladder and urinary tract muscle spasms even when your bladder isn't full. If you try to hold it for awhile you can have urine leakage. So, just cutting back on how much you drink or making regular bathroom stops won't resolve this physical problem. Unless addressed, this can be a serious issue for a male or female professional truck driver.

Torque- yes it is serious and being a nurse and working endless 12+ hr shifts in the day and not going to the bathroom (who had time? and there was one on the floor or when I did home care -same issue as drivers in a way) can down the road lead to some serious issues with bladder and/or bowel problems, infections and control.

I think this is a great thread w/good information but also being that we are talking about the subject at hand -adding some humor goes a long way too. For some this is a very embarrassing subject - I mean no one goes to the bathroom or farts for at least the first year in any new relationship right? well at least for girls that is.....
This subject is probably for some harder to talk about than sex.
Amazing we all have to go sometime right?

Hi sammycat! I agree that this may be an embarrassing subject for many people. I always enjoy humor on this forum (I even posted a couple of jokes in the joke section). I just wanted folks like olddog to know that there is hope for overactive bladder issues and that these issues shouldn't prevent them from entering or staying in the truck driving profession. :biggrin_255:

    sammycat Thanks this.
