Anyone know anything about Kroger or how well their drivers are treated? I used to be a cashier with them before I started trucking and driving is the only way I'd go back. Do they get CPM or hourly? I think they're Unionized. But I figure delivering to grocery stores can't be that bad in a day cab. You don't have an extended sleeper and could cut into tighter spaces easier... How much experience do they require?

I know in my part of the world that RUAN and Greatwide hauls for them out of Salem Va. I think that RUAN is hourly and union and have daycab trucks. Greatwide is paid by the mile and has new sleeper trucks. They run electronic logs and I can't say about RUAN.
Looked on RUAN website and I think somewhere in the 15.80 pay rate. -
I know in Atlanta a company called Atlas Logistics has the contract to deliver to Kroger stores. They have day cabs from most that I have seen. I believe there drivers are paid hourly and in a union based on stuff I have seen on the walls in the dispatch office. They tend to sub contract out some loads around major holidays. Pay I think is around the same range Popcorn is talking about. Many times they do run pretty late into the night if that affects your decision.

Also some of the runs might have them getting you a motel (at least used to) because of the length of the trip. They have different shifts and you being a newbie to them you will probably end up with the worst runs available (as with any local dedicated account). They run 7 days a week 24 hours a day and holidays also.

Running nights don't bother me. If I'm tired I pull over, the load will get there only safely and legally. No other ways. Ya I hear you about the crappy runs and I've had a few of those. Some days its such a pain to back into a tight door it seems like a miracle that I don't hit anything. But you just remember to stay calm and keep your head focused, get out and look and you'll get it in there... Oh yeah and never be afraid to ask for help...

you mean kroger themselves or a carrier thats dedicated to them? in delaware, OH (columbus) they have first fleet, great wide and us express running out of their warehouse, which i would think each has their own pros and cons, but yeah they run evenings, most i think are out and back same day. of course with those types of runs 'being tired' isnt an excuse when you're home everyday, you were hired specifically to run nights but getting used to it isn't as hard as I thought it would be lol (i dont run for kroger but it was an option, I opted for the petsmart account) also i think they have to help out with some offloading or something but like i said, its gonna depend on specifically which carrier you're refering to

It seems that different carriers haul for them depending on what region you live in... I would have to look into which company hauls their stuff in my region. But yeah being home every day is different from OTR in that respect I agree... It's more regular... I would assume you had similar hours every day so that helps your body to get on a schedule

You can always call the union and ask them about the Kroger job before hand and know what to expect. If your Kroger location isn't union, they will tell you. The union would know what sort of experience is required, what sort of run you could get, etc. Kroger used to have its own fleet in Columbus when they were on Poth Rd...but as Blue02celi stated, by the time Kroger moved to their new super warehouse east of Delaware OH, they were using dedicated fleets operated by USXpress and others. If your Kroger warehouse uses outside carriers, you would have to comply with their (the outside carriers) standards and procedures.

Here in Memphis, Kroger uses their own trucks.. "Kroger Dedicated Logistics" and not an outside carrier.
