I'm a returning driver and have a lead on a job where I would pick up manufactured vehicles, drive them to customers, and fly home. I happen to live close to one of these manufacturers who make Garbage Trucks. After delivery, I can fly straight home or if another customer is close to my delivery, just get in another vehicle to deliver it.

I would have to stay at motels since many of these vehicles will not have a sleeper compartment.

The company I'm talking to is Advanced Auto Transport: http://www.aatransport.net/

I'm also talking to people at Schneider with a possibility of Intermodel between Green Bay, WI and Chicago. This delivery gig seems interesting getting a chance to drive many different vehicles, but Schneider would be a more regular job.

Delivery vehicles is good work if you can get it. The problem is simple. You need to be neat as a pin. No smoking no anything. If you deliver a vehicle and is clean enough as a person no one will notice anything left behind by yours truly.

If you like flying, that should be a fun part of the work especially if someone pays for it. I would not mind getting into it. But again being neat and clean as in squeaky clean is a challenge.

Anyone can push a pumpkin down the road. But not everyone can do what you are looking to do.

I wonder about those drive away jobs, I'm assuming long hours since your clock doesn't start till you start the vehicle? Could be interesting. Intermodal is a stable job, if you doing wi to chicago, then prepare for the heavy traffic. I like it but left to have experience is something else

The only bad part to some of the better paying delivery jobs is having to carry a tool box. This is part of the job of the guys driving the decked trucks.

Not sure what I would carry with me since I'd have to usually fly back. Probably just hit the road with a carry on bag and my laptop.

Fortunately, I'm not a smoker, but I've been even thinking about my coffee habit or road snacks. Maybe in the vehicle I'll just have bottled water if I want a drink. I'm not messing around with crumbs from snacks or any thing that could spill and leave a stain.

Well, orientation is set for this gig, so I'll see how it goes. I'm intrigued with the idea of this job and feel at the least driving a variety of vehicles will add to my experience and open doors to other opportunities.

I do happen to live close to another town manufacturing Loadmaster Garbage Trucks, so I think delivering those will be my main job.

You mention flying back. This could get very expensive. Does the delivery pay that well or has your future employer committed to paying for this?

The employer covers the cost of the flight or rental car to get me back home.

I think it's some vehicles are being delivered to my location, so in some situations, I might get a paid backhaul making more money instead of sitting on a plane.
