My daughter has finally decided to get her CDL and has looked at these 2 schools. Has anyone here used them or know of them? I've seen good and bad reviews. We live in NC and have no firsthand knowledge. Thanks for any feedback.

If she lives in North Carolina, why is she interested in cdl school in New Jersey or Philadelphia?

DO NOT GO TO CDL SCHOOL UNTIL YOU KNOW WHERE SHE WILL WORK.
Every school will tell you now the time to go to school, whether it is or is not. The industry is slow slow right now. She is going to have a hard time finding a woman trainer after CDL school so she may wait weeks after school to start training at her employer, een if they agree to hire her the day after school.

The school is a formality. The job is the goal. Find the job then decide about school.

She lives in Philly, was in NJ before. She’s lived in that area 2-3 years now.

I recommend going with the school that has the most hours.
160 hour school is usually recommended, but some trucking companies will take graduates from 120 hr. schools. Tell her to ask each school about the hours and which companies hire from those school.
We, on this forum, can also recommend companies for her that may not actively recruit from the schools, but will hire grads from those schools.

Tell her to get all the endorsements before graduating from CDL school.
Many companies require one or more endorsements.
Make sure to get hazmat endorsement at the very least.
Even reefer companies haul hazmat loads, such as paint or fingernail polish.

I sent her advice I've seen here. She has now brought up Smith & Solomon. Says it's closer to home & easier to attend classes. Anyone familiar with it? She would attend the location on Wheatsheaf Lane in Philly. I've urged her to go to nearby truck stops and talk to drivers, go to companies and see where they like to hire from. She said she used to talk to a lot of drivers when she did warehouse jobs in NJ.

Smith & Solomon is a good school; it's 160 hours also.
