I applied to a job that uses a low boy. They didnt require any experience with it so i figured id give it a shot. How is it driving a low boy trailer around?

Very similar to driving anything else around. With a lowboy, you have to watch out for rr crossings, humps in the road, etc, and you have to know how to attach and detach the trailer, but the skills to drive it are essentially the same. -
I'm curious, you applied at ABF and are having an interview. Next you got hired on at Carlile, then next, you are applying to drive a low-boy. And I'm only on the first 5 threads ! Now I'm anxious to see where you'll show up next.

While the general control and maneuverability of a lowboy may be the same as any other trailer; there is one HUGE difference that wasn't mentioned.
Loading, securing and unloading the heavy equipment that is usually hauled on lowboys.
Besides the challenges of securing unusual/oversized loads, just simply moving/operating and positioning the equipment on the lowboy requires basic operating knowledge of all the equipment being moved.
Oh, and don't hit any curbs when loaded. Not only can you hang up the trailer, you'll probably blow out a tire.ACH1130 Thanks this. -
Perhaps you really meant,

Ice and snow CAN be fun if your good...if you suck, it's a nightmare
Lowboy can be challenging but, it's usually something you get into from a construction background...putting a pan (scraper) on a lowboy can be an ### pucker moment if you've never operated a pan -
1. I turned down the ABF job because I refuse to be on an extra/flex board because I lost a ton of money at con-way
2. I applied to Carlile and a recruiter emailed me back saying they will see what they can do for me.
3. I applied for the low-boy position because it's close to my house and they are willing to train so I wanted to get an idea on what it's like
4. I've applied to everything because I haven't been guaranteed a job yet so I'm trying to keep my options open!!!!
5. If you got a ####### problem or don't like something then don't say anything or try to make like look like an idiot -
aiwiron and LSAgentOZR Thank this.
