I'm wanting to buy a few acres of forest in the Carolinas and I want to have it partially logged and build a driveway for my truck to make it my home spot. I want any information from anyone that has done something similar. I was hoping the log trucks would pack down a crude driveway that I could build on with extra gravel of different sizes to make it suitable for an Otr truck to turn around. Please share your driveway or truck turnaround area building experiences. Thanks!

When my parents bought their last place they had all the trees ripped out down the side of the house, roots and all. Then they had it smoothed out with an excavator, then capped with crush. Nothing too big but you don't want fine gravel/sand because it gets dusty.

Over the years I've still had to pull myself out with the tractor more times than I can count during the rainy seasons.

I created a truck pad across the street from my house. I bought a lot of chert, packed it down real good. And put some gravel over the chert, and 5 yrs later the pad is as stiff as a concrete pad with no ruts. Never been stuck and parked on it grossed out frequently

Gravel on packed dirt.... shoulda been fine but I live in riverbottom black land. Every now an then a little sink hole would open up and stick me.

Sort of confused on the question. The logging company will make their own paths, dirt where possible or they'll lay down logs if it's soft/muddy.
