I'm getting a bit of a vibration at times especially when I'm making decent power. I thought it was the hanger bearing but it spins around fine, no clicking or anything. I noticed there's a bit of play up and down and grease coming out of the slip joint. I have no idea how to check them. The rear slip joint seems totally solid but there is some grease coming out of it as well. Both are non-greasable.

Allan, i dont know what technical and proper way to measure but here goes. I grab the shaft at the joint and try to move it. Should be no or "barely noticable" movement in the joint. If joint is getting much movement it is time to replace, imo. Others will be along to give much better info.

Technical enough for me! No movement at all on the rear one, front one definitely had movement and a slightly noticable "clunk" kind of like when a wheel bearing is set on the loose side.

When I bought my '98 western star, I noticed what I considered ALOT of play in the slip yoke. I figured on a new driveshaft and that was reflected in my offer on the truck. I took it in to have it CVIP'd and told the mechanic about it, he checked it and said it was still within spec. That was 6 years ago, same drive shaft, same play and no vibrations.
Trugo Thanks this.
