I was taught that the splines always point to power.

The external splines! The slip yoke would be towards the power. Pretty much everything I seen has been this way include PTO shafts, etc.

Show us what your working on. Spicer driveline? My guess is you have a full round u-joint. Four bolt in caps?

If your unsure what your doing, take the whole shaft to a driveline shop and have it redone and balanced. The quality of the job will be there......but your wallet will be a bit lighter.

Clean the yokes up good and remove all rust. Wire wheel or flap wheel works good. Pull the caps off the new u joints. Get everything lined up and slide the new caps in and torque. A little oil or antisieze help the caps slide in nice and easy. Usually tap them in with a small dead blow.
