My driver who was off work for a little time, has come back to work, but now is requiring SR22, because he was out of the country and missed a court date and to pay a fine before he left. The fine had nothing to do with a moving violation. Progressive advised me he does not require SR22 in a commercial vehicle, as long as, he hold SR22 with his personal insurance policy. Does anyone know how this works? Any information is helpful. This driver is scared to drive without it on our policy because he doesn't want to jeopardize his license. The SR22 requirement expires in March 2018.

All SR-22 means is that the insurance company notifies the state if his policy lapses or is cancelled, and the state will suspend his license. He can drive a vehicle owned and insured by somebody else without that other person getting an SR-22 policy.
...or at least that's my understanding of it. Brother-in-law required because he's a ####### and it got caught driving without insurance. Then, because he's a #######, spent the money he should have paid to the insurance company on stupid floormats, steering wheel cover, etc..., and got his license suspended when it lapsed and the insurance notified the state. What pissed me off was he let my wife borrow his truck 2 days before he got caught driving while suspended...without insurance...and never thought to mention to her that the truck wasn't insured. I could've ripped his head off for that one. Called my insurance agent to ask if there was a way to insure us in any vehicle we are driving to protect us in the event we're stopped driving a vehicle we don't own that we weren't aware was uninsured. He said unfortunately there is not, and he explained how SR-22 works...that it isn't really anything special, other than the insurance notifies the state if/when the policy is terminated.
I'm not an insurance agent, and I've never been subject to to SR-22, so take the above for what it is worth...which really isn't much. -
Appreciate your feedback and laugh! Thank you!

Only time I've known of needing an sr-22 is when trying to get your license back for whatever reason they were taken away. I'd definitely be running a check on his license with the issuing state, just to cover my own behind.
