Hello all! So today I applied for and was granted my EIN, USDOT and MC numbers! While looking through what forms I need to keep for doing business, I noticed one of them being the Driver Qualification form. I understand what it is as a record of employment application, but do I really need one on myself, as if I've applied to my own company? Thanks!

Okay, any tips on where I could find a kit or steps of some kind? Been quite a while since I've had to fill out anything like that.

If you are in Kansas you "should" have been asked on the KTRANS site to attend a seminar put on by the KDOT, at that seminar they will give you a VERY nicely laid out booklet on how everything needs to be.

The FMCSA has a little "kit" with the forms you need, including an app. Even though you own the truck, you still have to qualify as a driver even with your own authority.

You are two people in the same body.
The first person is the business owner.
The second is the truck driver.

The business owner needs to keep records on all truck drivers, so yes you have to make out an application for yourself. Silly to think of it that way sure, but separating the two it does make sense. You can own a company and not drive, or be a driver and not own the company. The regulations take all into account.

And here is the like for the driver kit @Ridgeline was talking about (I believe)

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the insight! I went ahead and printed out the kit you linked here.

I couldn't get signed up on KTrans for some odd reason. Maybe it's just me, or I just need to wait until I head to my DMV to get them to do it.

Yeah they should be tagging you, as all new entrants need to go to the seminar, Ive have had my Interstate authority for 25 years but when I recently applied to add Intrastate auth. I had to retake the course, all in all its well worth the 6 hours you spend there.

Did you get anything by mail for setting up your KTrans account?
