Have a company offering .47/cpm loaded and .25/cpm empty and wondered if that sounds feasible? Examples of current driver pay for miles only show about 8-10% deadhead miles. Gave me a couple examples of high mileage drivers and low mileage drivers so I had a feel of what I wanted to do. They do offer more per mile for over size loads, additional tarp pay, stop off pay and detention pay. Just looking for feedback from other truck drivers out there what their thoughts are on this scenario.
Flatbed loads dispatched 2 weeks:
4,791 loaded x .47 = $2,251.77
641 empty x .25 = $160.25
Total = $2412.02 (2716 miles per week)
4,011 loaded x .47 = $1,885.17
577 empty x .25 = $144.25
Total = $2,029.42 (2294 miles per week)

My opinion, the more complex the pay system - the more likely you are to be cheated or short changed. If you truly have only 8% dead head how much is this guy saving himself for only paying you %.25cpm:
Say at 2500 miles a week: 2500 x 8% x ($.47 - $.25) = $44. So this employer is saving himself $44 a week and making his pay scheme much more complicated if he was 100% honest with you. I tend to think he is not. -
That would be like any employer paying you at 60% for non-busy times, or cutting your pay during the opening and closing times, wouldn't it?
What if you were in a bad area and had to deadhead 500 miles? It happens sometimes.
I get paid the same empty or loaded, and I am with one of the largest mega's.
If they can be fair about the pay, ...
You are doing the same job whether you are loaded or empty. Why should you get paid less during certain times?
This is all assuming it is a position as a company driver.diesel drinker Thanks this. -
I get paid same on loaded and empty miles and can't imagine it being any other way.I would say SCREW THEM. Oh and 5440 miles in 2 weeks is not by any means HIGH MILEAGE driving at least not by Chicagoland standards LOL. Few years ago you would get fired for being a slacker if you only turned 2700 miles a week.
