I always try to dress nice and presentable for any occasion. Usually wear slacks either tan, black or dark blue with a tucked in button up shirt with either nice dress shoes or nice steel toes depending on what I'm doing. Whether I'm going out to dinner or going fishing. I get treated with a lot of respect i believe due to how I present my self. My grandpa always taught me to dress presentable. He said take a look at old photos, you can be a hard working construction worker and look nice. Which is true if you look at old photos from farmers to construction to bankers. I realize times have changed and not everyone agrees and that's fine. Just curious if everyone will look at me as a freak while the road. It's not like I wear three piece suits and I do have some nice steel toed boots I wear everyday to work. Im more comfortable in slacks then jeans. Does anyone else like dress similar on the road?

well, i wouldnt look at you as a freak. Personally, i get sick of seeing drivers look and dress like homeless bums! Is it written somewhere that you need to wear filthy, nasty sweats or hi-top athletic shoes with no laces while on the road or at customers? There are poeple in this industry that are thick skinned and dont care how they look at a public place or around other drivers but it annoys me that they dont realize why the public has a low opinion of drivers after seeing a driver exit the cab at a rest area looking like a bum off the streets. I'm no pretty boy but i wear a clean uniform every day, buy work boots on a reg. basis. I shave and bath daily and wear cologne while on the job. Why?? because i represent my company 5 days a week and while on duty, this is the most socialization i do during the week. when i punch out and go home, all i see is the dog at home. Why would a driver put himself in a position to have poeple think that you are a slob.
I say good for you to keep up your appearence while on the road, i wish more drivers would.nctrucker1977, pimarine, alaga and 3 others Thank this. -
I wear a tuxedo t-shirt because it says I want to be formal but I'm here to party...

I agree! I wear black or tan cargo slacks and either a polo or a button up work style shirt. I prefer the cargo pockets b/c I can't stand sitting on my wallet. I either wear my redwing work boot or my cowboy style work boot. I think taking pride in how you look says a lot about you are and tells others you at least look profesional. So I say who cares if one judges you for taking pride in how you look, and I say thank you for helping to represent our industry with a little class...

i agree you should have clean and appropriate clothes when your at a place delivering or picking up since you're representing the company. i like jeans and a nice shirt. but i'll wear shorts and t-shirt while i'm driving.but honestly..i don't really care what people think of me since they don't know me

I think there is no problem if you want to dress like that. I think you should take pride in your apperance.

I always wore slacks with nice button or snap shirts with collar. Wear steel toe boots to protect the feet and ankle; bought shirts & boots at western wear stores & slacks at Walmart. Wear ball caps with nothing offensive on them. This was my attire when flatbedding, reefer, and tanker. I met a Bekins driver that wore a suit & tie; he said he dressed that way because he was comfortable in those clothes & for no other reason.
