So I’ve heard we should be draining our fuel water separator daily, but is it really necessary? I honestly rarely do it. Yet I have never had any problems with it.

Drain it. Water and espeically algae is your enemy in today's post 2007 fuels. Your dryer is a green house growing horrible things in plant life ready to consume your rig in ways you cannot imagine just yet.
PE_T Thanks this. -
Every three months, never had an issue. Never seen more than a teaspoon of water in mine

Daily is excessive. Most daily drivers get hot enough most moisture evaporates from the tanks. Most new rigs have a WIF sensor to warn the driver to drain the bowl and most engine manufacturers are mandating their use on OEM filtering units.
For you guys into the new EPA stuff. In the not to distant future I am told that all Diesel fuel systems will be ventless and will have a mandated vapor containment system similar to automobiles. No on highway diesel trucks will be permitted to be vented to atmosphere. I would dare say manual water separator drains will also be on the chopping block.spsauerland, bzinger, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Whats next cooling coils supported by seperate air conditioning compressor around each tank? -

I appreciate the education, despite my feelings to this... this.. You think I swam in high sulfur fuel for years rolling down the road the way we did back then. Nothing harm done that I know of.
