I was wondering if there was a downloadable version of a Truck atlas. It would be great for me to be able to zoom in, instead of strugling with my magnifying glass. If there is please direct me to the site where I can purchase it. I can only find a standard version to down load.
    Thanks

Not trying to be a smart alec or burst your bubble, but why not just use Google maps, an atlas, and some common sense? That's what I do and have absolutely no problems, even with some fairly large-ish oversize loads.

The Rand McNally truck GPS units contain the Rand McNally paper atlas in electronic form. Any location in the GPS will give you the page and key number that mirrors it in the paper atlas. Yes, you can pan and zoom the GPS map.

Personally, I use the Rand McNally GPS for a rough idea of routing to an unfamiliar receiver. I can count on RM's routing to be overly conservative, but not particularly optimized for efficiency. I simply use Google maps if I need to zoom in on a particular location. Satellite view gives me an idea of what to expect when driving to a new area, and Street View at key points of my route lets me look at truck restriction and bridge clearance signs. Traffic view gives me real time information that I use to optimize my travel time by adjusting my route if needed.

Particularly helpful considering I frequent the NYC metro area.

I cant get google maps to work without a internet connection. So I figured a atlas on the laptop would be good. I am semi new to the laptop and totally new to trucking.

Gotcha. ALK Co Pilot used to have a PC based offline program, haven't really lookedntonsee if its still available, bit here is a lino you can dig through on your own http://copilotgps.com/us/truck/
It may be fairly pricy, though.

CoPilot is about 150.00 for either Android or an i-device.

wished they had a cheap version for pc. i wouldn't mind having the software on my laptop.

but, then, finding pc software is a challenge considering you have to use a gps antannae. to which i use the bluetooth method using my tablet.
so far, i've only gotten one app and one program to work using my tablet as the gps receiver. not that i want to use it as a daily driver. it's routing sucked the one time i checked it out. have ZERO to work with my phone.

If Rand McNally and CoPilot doesn't work out try Microsoft Streets and Trips. I don't have a truck version but it's still the best $100 I ever spent.
