    I have been hired by a company and I have to get a CDL. They have arranged a DOT physical. Many years ago I did something stupid, got high, and overdosed. I went into a coma. I now have visible nerve damage in my leg but I can walk, carry weight, sit, stand, ect with no problem. I have a scar on my neck from the breathing tube. I do not have any other problems or conditions. Am I screwed? Will they ask for medical records? Will this be disqualifying? Will they tell the employer if I am honest?

    If all the above was over 10 years ago....you should be good to go.

    Keep us posted on your CDL job progress.

    Everyone loves a good success story....:p

    They’ll ask for medical history and stuff like that. Just be honest about it. If you try to hide it, and they find out it’s going to cause a bigger #### storm. I think you’ll be alright though.

    I go to a chiropractor for my DOT physical. They can’t look up your past med history. If it’s a chiropractor ur golden.

    Just leave those details off the medical questionnaire and you'll be fine. Change to "I had an accident" if asked to explain.

    motocross25, Chinatown and Lav-25 Thank this.

    "Many years ago I did something stupid, got high, and overdosed. I went into a coma."

    No trucking company will hire you if they know about this.

    Depending on the questions that are asked on the form, maybe you are, maybe not.
    Some questions may be;
    have you ever been admitted to a hospital?
    have you ever had surgery?
    have you ever sought psychiatric/neurological help?
    If you answer ‘Yes’ there more than likely will be follow up questions.
    Some may have a timeframe, ‘within the 5 years’ ‘within the 10 years’ ‘ever’ just be 100% truthful, with the exception of the question; ‘do you snore’? Never, ever, ever, in your life do you answer ‘Yes’ to that question! If you do, you are 99.44% ensured you will be in a world of hurt.

    Be ready to explain the scar on your neck, if the Doc sees it
