I have a few questions if anyone could help. How often does the Department of Transportation inspect your truck? Is there like a set time such as you have not been pulled in for a couple months so you need to? Does Werner Trucking have a policy of getting your truck DOT every say 60 days?
I do understand that DOT when you go through a weight station and pull you over at will, just curious on the other.
Tickets, now I know that if you get 4 points in a year you can lose your license and unlike none commercial where it would be 1 point it is like 1.5 against you. Will a company let you go if you get 3 points off in a year by 1.5 and 1.5?
How strict is Werner on this as well. I ask because this last one we are fighting with a lawyer. I will leave it to these questions for now.
    Thanks anyone who responds.:newb:

Each truck and trailer has to have an annual vehicle inspection.
Being inspected by a DOT officer, either in a scalehouse or roadside, is a roll of the dice. If your truck and trailer pass the DOT inspection, they can apply a small decal with a number, corresponding to the quarter of the year, to your windsheild. This is to let other DOT officers that you have had a recent roadside inspection. Some people get inspected on a regular basis, and others go years between inspections.
Werner may have a prescribed set of company rules that call for the vehicles have to be inspected at a company terminal every so many miles. A lot of companys have these type of inhouse rules.

and remember that the dot officer is not required by any means to place a CVSA sticker on the tractor or trailer if they pass.

I can almost guarantee you that a "company DOT inspection" is rarely a complete DOT inspection. Invariably something get's forgotten about or barely touched on. I'm saying this so you're not surprised if you go into a terminal and they waste 45 minutes "inspecting your truck/trailer", and you leave and get DOT'd down the road and receive a violation. Many drivers manage to do a better inspection in 15 minutes than a team of company mechanics will in 45 minutes (including breaks) who really aren't well motivated to do good and thorough work.

Thank you for the feed back on The DOT. I still want to know about how strict Werner or other companies are on Tickets. Keeping in mind that until now he had nothing on his dmv record.
First ticket was for being in the wrong lane.
Second one we are fighting for good cause, but still if we don't win, it will be his 2nd and I am thinking a total of 3pt will be on his record after words.

It's hard to say how a company will react to a yearly MVR check that shows some new activity. There are so many different standards and rules that vary from one carrier to the next. Too, a lot may depends on the driver's performance. If a driver has demonstrated outstanding reliability and performance for some time, no accidents/incidents, some things can get a pass, if a driver has been trouble from day 1, they'll look for any excuse to kick him/her out.

Also, for carriers, it's not so much about points accumulations, it's about the infractions themselves. For ANY commercial truck driver, ANY ticket that can be fought or adjudicated to a dismissal or probation needs to be handled that way ... within reason but for drivers, there's plenty of reason to go to great lengths and effort to try and get tickets dealt with. But, many have shelled out good money to lawyers who swore the ticket would be (was) dismissed, only to discover later the ticket was filed and registered with the state DMV. So, it's a crap shoot, sometimes.

Drives for Werner and is a team driver as well. First ticket was, being in the wrong lane. Second one speeding, but we are fighting for a few reason.
