why does he want your logbook?? -
One copy is for you... Comes in real nice at tax time If you have a good accountant that knows trucking, you can deduct per diem, then if you are ever audited, you have a legal document showing proof for the per diem

But my boss is saying I have to give it to him he won't let me keep it

He's an ####### and just wants it

First off, that log book is yours. I don't care if the company supplied it or you bought it. You must give the company the white copies no longer than every 14 days. You are required and so is the company to retain those logs for six months and then you can dispose of them if you want. You are required to have the previous eight days in the truck with you. THE YELLOW COPY IS YOURS NOT THE COMPANIES, DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM. If you want to claim road expense on your taxes, you must spend the night away from you TAX HOME, then you should retain the log for at least seven years in case of a tax audit. By the way all that info is available in the little green bible, get one, it will make you a better driver if you read and comply.

Yeah, legally, you turn in the original to safety. You keep the carbon. This is a perfect example of a truck driver knowing the rules so he doesn't get stepped on by mgt or police agencies.

Allow Me is 100% right.
Some employers want the log pages to be turned in every day. They don't have to be in to the employer until the 14th day.
The issue I have had with that is, as a driver I am required to present to the DOT 7 days + the day I am on. That means the DOT officer can make an issue out of any log in my possession. Unfortunately, some of the carbon copies are not so good. It is nothing for a line drawn to look 15min of one way or another by the time it is gone through the carbon paper. Often times a line or notation is not copied at all. Those facts along with the knowledge from a few DOT officers that have let me know when they write log violations, it is often in a discrepancy of 15mins, has me always keep the originals for 8 days no matter what the boss man wants. He wants a log each day, he is getting the carbon or waiting 8 days until it is no longer a issue I have to worry about.12 ga Thanks this.
