what happens when DOT shows up at rest stops and truck stops? Can they wake you up out of the sleeper to do an inspection? If so can I just ignore them if they knock on the door and pretend I’m not in there? It’s not like they are going to bust in am I right?
DOT at rest areas and truck stops, will they wake you up?

Don't know the answer, but I saw it today in Illinois and the CB was blowing up advising to NOT stop at the rest area.
D.Tibbitt and slim shady Thank this. -
So I've asked a NC state trooper this. The answer is:
No, you aren''t legally obligated to open your door but if he's knocking to tell you you need to move your truck and he doesn't get an answer, he's calling a wrecker and then you're getting towedBlue Zombie Trucker, flood, tscottme and 3 others Thank this. -

No they won't mess with you normally unless there is something serious wrong like parked somewhere impeding traffic or for your safety or others they know you are off duty and need your sleep heck I sleep at weight stations sometimes and they don't mess with you

At a rest area in Maryland DOT was banging on truck doors and asking to see logbooks. If you weren't logged as stopping there, you got a big ticket. I was fortunate and the CB woke me and I immediately drove away and on to the interstate; in my underwear. That's no joke either. Really sick, disgusting DOT to do something like that.

Back before Rip Griffins was bought out by TA, the dot got on his lot in Moriority NM one night waking up drivers and checking their logs. As soon as the manager found out about it, he put a stop to it right then.

Another time in Maryland, as I crossed the scales, a DOT officer came running out waving his arms a screaming at me to stop. His face was red with anger. He jumped up on the steps and demanded for me to hand over my radar detector. I said, I don't have one. He then started screaming again and pointing to my sunglasses case that was attached to the dash with Velcro. He didn't believe me, so I ripped the sunglasses case off the dash and showed it to him. He jumped down off the truck and waved me on my way.
