    Hello
i did my cdl permit last thursday. Then I applied to a company for a paid cdl and get this answer(below). I'm willing to pay for a school myself but I do not want to wait 3 years just because I've only had a driver's license for 2 month in the USA. I drove 9 years in switzerland without any DUI or accident. Is there a regulation about it that I couldn’t find?

Unfortunately our hands are tied when it comes to your USA MVR. DOT(Department of Transportation) requires you to have at least three years of verifiable driving history here before being eligible to drive for them/with us. I would suggest getting a job that doesn’t involve driving for now until the three years has passed and then re apply and get your dream job driving the country. You have a great application! We just cant do anything until you’ve had your USA drivers license for three years. I’m not sure if you can even get your CDL without it either since they most likely are guided by DOT regulations as well.

How long did you live in the US without a driver’s license? Are you a recent immigrant?

I moved out here in September 2018 legally. I have a work permit and I got my driver license in October 2018 and my cdl permit last week.

I moved to the States in June 2013, legally (Green Card), switched my driver's license mid of June, took all the tests for my CDL and got my CDL on July 2nd. There was no requirement to have a U.S. driver's license for three years, sounds BS to me
State was Texas, I lived in Canada for a few years, but I'm German.

So we are old neighbors:) I mean i couldn’t find anything about it. I think maybe it’s a requirement from the company and not from the government.

Check other companies, seems to be a company requirement, not DOT.

    His problem isn't the license.

His problem is getting a job. Need 3 years verifiable.

That's dot required. And that's part of the paperwork we all fill out every time we start a new job.

I don't see why it matters what country though.

I was driving trucks before in Europe and Canada, so I had experience. But had no job in the U.S. before.
