This company started small and rise quickly. Other car hauling companies call them the J.B. Hunt of car hauling because they have ruined the business by under bidding all the other companies and hauling cars for pennies. They managers and dispatchers act like they hate all drivers and all loads are over height, over length, and definitely over weight. And you pay the ticket when the dispatcher has the weight right in front of them but overweight you anyway.

How much experience do you have hauling cars? This is an important question because a brand new carhauler at a union company doesn’t make good money until he knows what he is doing. Your experience may not have been good, but this is not the same experience that most at this company have. I have been an owner operator carhauler for this company for 3 years. With 31 years of trucking under my belt I have no plans to leave as our rates are comparable to other car hauling companies. If I were hauling cars for pennies I wouldn’t be grossing $6,000-$8,000 a week and home most nights.

I agree that your situation may not have been good for you, but you can always find something better if you are good enough to get it. You probably could have just found a different terminal with the same company and had a much better experience. You slammed an entire company as being bad and I am telling you it is not bad for everyone.

Are you an owner operator or a company driver?

I talked to a company driver Tuesday about his pay. He runs short haul freight running two loads a day and is a 20 plus year seasoned carhauler. He made $107,000 in 2018 with full company paid benefits and is home most nights. He stays in a hotel when not home paid by the company. I realize not everyone makes this, but it is available to those with the desire and skills to earn it.

Why spend the time trying to defend this company ? If it's a good company it doesn't have a need to be defended by anyone.

i think that is the whole point of this truckers report forum. One person give his/her viewpoint. Another person gives his/her viewpoint. If only one side of the issue is given then knowbody knows the whole story.

Is California a good spot to get into car hauling, I'm a flatbed driver and been wanting to give car hauling a shot. How long to get proficient at it for a hustler?

Yes I think California would be good as we have several terminals out there. Being a flatbedder may give you a slight advantage. Car hauling isn’t for everyone, but you never know until you actually get in to it. How long is hard to say. Some pick it up right a way in a couple weeks or so and others never do before they give up. If you can give it 6 months before you give up, you may like it. I was told in training that you don’t become a good carhauler for 5 years. In my case in was fairly accurate. I knew what I was doing before then, but at the 5 year mark I felt much more comfortable with my job.
