sounds like mclane, even with e-logs, they find a way to work you 24 to 28 hours straight. one man in sleeper:biggrin_25512:but working right along with the legal guy. Then the legal guy runs out of hours n, can anyone guess what happens at that point:yes2557:. Ding ding-you got it, they switch places on the elog but both still hump their butts off. I believe its called slave-labor. They preach safety and 3 day work week, ok but its three 28 hour shifts with no rest while working. Anyone who has had the opportunity to work for this wonderful company know what im talking about.

Both of these describe my six months of he!! with Papa John's. Never again will I ever work for a foodservice company that runs teams. When I started foodservice, the company that I worked for ran two drivers in a truck BUT they were mostly day cabs. The runs were set up to have the drivers out and back in 15 or less(old HOS).

OMFG.... Dominos has a trucking side; I used to manage(shift runner, more $ then assistant manager) a store down here in Australia, but here they are contracted to a food transport company, and Dominos just sticks to making pizza.

The driver we used to see twice a day, was a nice dude, and he liked seeing us, as we had 6 employees working the nights he came (seeing as there was an average of 4-8 pallets a week (4 on monday; 8 on thursday)
So we leave like 2 instores at the front, and we all helped, and while we were unloading the truck, we would ask what pizza would he like(custom made) and made it.
After a few months, we got him to make his own pizza every now and then when customers weren't at the counter.

Sadly he did leave, as the company he was working for, lost the contract to DEL for us because of constant braking freight and miss direction (No breaking of freight on the guy that did our run)

But the new driver just seems to be in more of a hurry and more run down back then; they were surprised we offered a free pizza for dinner..

Oh and as a thankyou to the other driver, when his kid had a birthday, we arranged for 10 free pizza's to be sent to his house...

    --------------
All that was a few years ago, and when I was younger and could handle Driving, and managing a store at the same time.

And if any of you are wondering why there was more $ as a shift runner then assistant managment.
Shift runner gets paid hourly depending on age. $22.50 p/h (I was 20) ; and it goes up 0.50 every year. Till $35 p/h. (Only one women I knew was on that rate, and she only worked 3 nights, thurs/fri/sat. (took home almost $800 for staying at the store and had no expenses)

    -----

    Ahhhh the good old day's.

Management gets a set hourly pay. $18.80 p/h

Here in the states, both Domino's and Papa Johns's have thier own commasaries(sp) where not only do they make the dough, they stock and ship all the supplies that are needed in the stores with the exception of soft drinks. Domino's owns thier trucks, Papa John's contract the trucking side out to who ever bids the cheapest every three years. Right now, that would be Cardninal Logistics Management.

I'm a former employee of Domino's and flouder is exactly right, ILLEGAL!!!!!!! That is why I quit. The work is one thing, but you are forced to work while logged in the sleeper or get another job. 2 drivers were killed in Texas recently in the middle of the night, no other cars were involved. I don't know what happened, but I don't understand how they continue to get away with it. DOT has to know what is going on, there have been law suits against Domino's for this, but yet they continue to put there drivers and the public in harms way (OVER SOME ##### PIZZA!!!!!!)

Papa Johns has an in-house fleet in 4 locations, I think they still use Worldwide Dedicated in 4, and Cardinal in 2, unless that has changed since I left.

Regardless of the logistics company, it is the same formula for operations, which last I knew, was a lot of creative bending of HOS with regard to team operations.

More than likely fatigue related. Couldn't find any news related stuff on the crash, or the lawsuits you mentioned though.

Those pizza truckers make money! Wouldn't doubt they pull in 70-90k a year but They have to it's all heavy items hand unload bags flour, 6-10 tomato sauce. You get used to it though, I like being solo foodservice driver plus not everything I unload is heavy. It is 100% touch freight but I did 5 yrs OTR and saw a picture of myself from 2 years ago and I was ######! I'm alot trimmer and feel good now thanks to this job. They run like mclane, coremark, team operation but I would mind help with the weight coming off those trucks. Plus their home alot prob 4 day work week.

About 55-80K was the range for driver's pay, depending on how long you were with them, and of course how hard (illegal) you wanted to run.

Domino's and Papa Johns do not haul bags of flour. Dough is pre-made at the commissaries and shipped in stack-able trays. Pizza sauce does come in 6/10 cans, and then the rest of it is shipped and hand-picked at the stores. Where it gets heavy depends on how much you load the hand cart up. I used to run 450-600 lbs. per hand truck.

It's hard work, and it does keep you in shape, but there are areas of the body that take a beating over time. Torn rotator cuffs, and back problems are the norm for the drivers who start to do it long term and approach my age.
