Hi everyone. First post. I am about to graduate CDL school!
I am trying to find an OTR company that will allow me to get on the road with my 45 pound dog in relatively short time. That is, a company where newbie training is relatively short (e.g. two weeks, etc, assuming I do very well), so that I can get him on the road and don't have to board him for too long while I train.
I've been advised by May Trucking Company that their training is only two weeks or so, which was a major plus for me, but I recently heard a less-than-friendly review from another person who just started with them, namely regarding a mandatory $90 daily flat pay for the first three months, before they let you go CPM, so I am hesitant to go with them. Especially since my recruiter gave a detailed entry level pay schedule and omitted this detail!!
Any other companies you know, in which I can get the training done in less than 3 weeks, and then get on road with a 45 pound dog?
Greatly appreciated!
EDIT: I currently live between Fontana and Phoenix mega terminals, and I prefer runs that will allow me to easily take home time in So Cal or AZ
Dog friendly entry-level trucking companies?

Where is your location; state/city. We need to know the hiring area you live in.

I live in the So Cal desert -- not too far from Fontana or Phoenix mega terminals (edited my first post with that info)

Watkins-Shepard has a 10 day training period.
Here's some more, but you'll have to call about the training period. Maybe your trainer will have a pet and let you bring yours along. You're dog weighs 30 lbs.- remember that.

All the above have pet policy and hire new cdl grads. They hire new cdl grads even if the website shows "experience required."
Check 'em all out and figure which is the best fit for you.Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this. -
Oh man, that's useful!
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Also look into Werner, they are a mega but they do allow pets and I have a family member that drives for them and says they are pretty good. -
I talked to a Crete driver. They allow 1 pet but they force you change trucks periodically and charge a big amount for cleaning your old truck. It was outrageous. Talking to him it sounded like Crete had a lot of unpleasant policies but the guy was so compliant. I felt bad for him. it was like he'd been beaten into submission. Ask plenty of questions and talk to other company drivers before you sign.

Better get a 12volt vacuum for the dog hair.
Klleetrucking and Swiss Mountain Dog Thank this. -
You can "sweep" up and collect pet hair by putting on a rubber dishwashing glove and wiping your hand across qny cloth surface. The hair balls up and can be picked up. Then use the vacuum to clean the rest.Trucking in Tennessee and Swiss Mountain Dog Thank this. -

Also depends on the dog.
Some barely shed. Others...you can make an entire pack of puppies with the fur they drop.
My beagle/caviler mix doesn't really shed. He does, but it's not really noticeable. Layla my brittany/lab mix on the other hand...she sheds like I wrote above. An the puppy....well she's still a puppy but I imagine she won't shed much as she's a beagle/demon mix as I call her or Beagle/Jack Russell.
I like my mutts. I don't like tons of fur everywhere though. Needless to say Layla sheds more then the 2 other dogs, an the 3 cats combined, an then some! On the plus side...I take a little bit of her everywhere..lol.
Good luck, an focus on the training. Your pup will thank you, when it finally gets on the road with you. Sucks to leave your pet behind. It's for a good cause though, so keep that in mind and don't rush through the training. Better to pay a little more for boarding and make sure your good to go, then it is to wreck an possibly harm yourself or the dog cause you didn't pay attention while training.
Sirscrapntruckalot - I like big mutts an I cannot lie. An you other dog lovers can't deny. That when a puppy walks in with an itty bity leash and a bunch of drool in your face. - Sir Mixalot if he ever decided to change the words to Baby Got Back for my amusement.JeremyBlue, tscottme and Swiss Mountain Dog Thank this.
