I've been wondering because it's been so hot. What kind of trailer does dog & cat food get transported in? Reefer or dry van? If reefer, what temp? Is there drop & hooks done in this niche? Do trailers of food sit on lots for hours or days waiting to get offloaded, or picked up at the shipper?

Yeap, dog food gets throw in a van, and sits in the sun till its picked up by a driver.

Hours...days...weeks...as long as needed. Most dry dog foods tolerate extremes of temperature fairly well. The place where I buy my dog food is an old railway station, and the feed is kept on pallets in an un-airconditioned area.

Everybody loves their dog. I know I do ( all 170lbs of him). We dog owners take great care in taking care of our best friends.

That being said.... They sniff butts and will eat poop if you let them. If their dog food sits on a trailer in the Sun, trust me they won't know.

Their are dog owners who go a holistic route in their feeding where everything is fresh and home made.

But again, they sniff butts and eat poop.

There's been some issues lately in the pet food industry, FDA closing a plant, chinese made treats, chinese ingredients, etc. and this heat wave has gotten me thinking about the transportation and storage side of it.

    Oh so true!
This last trip home my dog ate part of a 4 week old dead fish & had to go to the vet. $180 later, antibiotics, and she'd do it again if she could!

Unfortunately I missed the chase...by the time I got the camera & turned it on, he was just sitting down to enjoy his victory feast.

Saves money on dog food...and controls the bunny population. Win-Win.:smt023
