Hi, everyone!
In three months of hauling, I have changed SEVEN recaped tires.
Now I am at the point, when I tired of buying an changing mud flaps, and fixing all problems that are caused by recap blow outs. I called several dealers and realized that virgin tire prices have difference in price around 200 buks( depends on brand). I want to byu 4 drive tires . Dayton tire 295/75 R 22.5 costs $365.00 when Goodyear $512.00 Does the brand really matter?
Appreciate any suggestions !!!

Recaps blow pun intended lol. Seriously stay away from recaps the reason they are cheap is because they are unreliable. generally running a brand name tire you will get more wear out of them however you also pay the price. Yoko makes a decent drive tire

Yes. IMO of course.
I picked up a nail in a trailer tire that could not be fixed due to being right on the edge. Was offered a cap and casing for $475 (in a small town in BC) I said..."got anything else?" He came up with a new Continental for $490 minus a $30 instant rebate.
Well duh! -
You get what you pay for with tires. You can get cheaper up front which usually end up wearing out faster and costing you more. Or you can pay higher upfront for grade A tires that last longer and cost you less over the life. Yoko's are lousy drive tires I've gotten 225,000 miles out of a set and they're wore out ready for caps. With caps it's the same thing and of course unknown casings are a recipe for disaster.
blanco Thanks this. -

I run Samson's on all positions.......
first set of drive tires i got 3 years 9 months.. Approx 300,000 miles of HEAVY hauling.
Steers 2 years 180,000 miles
Trailer 3 years 6 months almost 300,000 miles.
I cannot stress how pleased I am with this overseas tire.
reasonably priced.....8 drive tires installed $2800 (16 ply) less carcasss
2 steers $700 all in less carcasses. -
Yes brand makes a huge difference. Better brands ride better, get better mpg, handle better, resist puncture better, etc. I wont trust my life to anything Michelin. Check the rolling Resistance on Michelin website and you will see, many cheap brands have high rr.

Join the michelin advantage program for free and save like 50% compared to truck stop prices. If you go to a TA, you can pay TA directly for a tire and it cost 800 bucks. If you pay michilan 400 or so they will give you an auth number you give to the ta and you buy the same tire, but don't pay the ta directly and save 400. Same tire installed at same place, but just paying differently.
double yellow Thanks this. -
I'm with you on this one, Yoko has changed. I have on the front a high scuff steer from yoko. Trying them for the first time. Coming up on a year and still have half an inch of tread left.

Well with Caps you really never going to know what you will get
But I'm kind of wondering how often you checked your tire pressure.double yellow Thanks this.
