I found a local company, did drug test, background and orientation. They said I'd be put down as available for Dispatch and wait for them to call me when a trainer was available. This was on Monday. I sent a follow up email yesterday but no reply. Should I call them tomorrow or is that too much? I never got an official hire letter but did fill out direct deposit
does clearing orientation mean you're hired

you cleared orientation, usually the final hiring process takes place after training not before. a trainer may not be available at the moment.. they don't come a dime a dozen
-
what i mean is if you're a student / trainee you've got to pass phase 2 before you become an employee.
-
I think once you get assigned to a trainer you are officially "hired" and you may be "hired" now not that it makes much difference, however as with most jobs you will be in probationary status is the beginning (90 days typically) meaning you can be let go, for virtually any little thing, or no reason at all other then they changed their mind.
I'm not sure if you can count the time waiting for a trainer as "unemployed" to qualify for state unemployment benefits (if that's the question) -
ExOTR Thanks this.

Lepton1, otherhalftw and pattyj Thank this.

Is it a small company?
Go walk in and see if you can keep yourself busy. Wash trucks, clean up the shop. Whatever you wanna do. Anything to keep you in contact with the company so they don't forget about you and you have peace of mind knowing you actually do have the job. -
All 4 trucking companies Ive worked for/leased too were the same. Call you into safety.. Recruiter tells you about the company and asks "Are you interesed?" than boom in the truck running asap. Pretty sure you're good to go!

Did you get paid for orientation, and did you fill out a W2 form already? If yes, then technically you are hired. If you're on the roster as available, your in the system already.

Depending on the availability of trainers the wait time can get pretty long. When I was training I had some students that had to wait a week or more before they got on my truck.
You're hired, just not earning money until you start training, although some companies do pay you for your time in orientation.pattyj Thanks this.
