Does a CDL-A Learners Permit from Texas ever expire? Becasue I'm planning on getting mine here pretty soon. I've been studying the Texas CDL book for weeks and feel confident in getting my Learners permit so I can start driving with one of my relatives on the road.
Thanks truckers!

luckily for you, I saved mine in a binder that sits in a cubby hole behind my driver seat.
Just pulled it out and it expires 5 years from now, I got it one year ago-
TL : DR- Yes, they do. 6 years, same amount of time as a texas CDLfuturetruckertx Thanks this. -
Went to TDOT. Passed the first 2 tests. Got a paper permit and a plastic one mailed a week later.
Shows expires on my b'day. Next year since that when my regular dl would next expire.
HOWEVER... they tell you when they hand you that piece of paper you have 90 days to get your license or you start over.
Went back 2 weeks later to take the other 3 tests, 90 day clock started again.
So the answer is no, only 90 days.
Good luck

Okay truckers it looks like I'll be going for the knowledge test to get the cdl learners permit test at McKinney Tx. I still need to find the application for the permit and start becoming conversant with sample questions. By chance, does anyone know how to get the cdl learners permit application document from their site? I've been browsing and the only thing that comes close is this document. Is this the correct one?

does this still stand today? 6 years?

here is from the DPS sight
- You must hold a valid Texas Driver License
- A CLP is not valid without your base Texas driver license and cannot be used for identification
- A CLP authorizes you to practice on public roads in a CMV with a qualified CDL license operator, 21 years of age or older who holds the same class of CDL for the vehicle you are driving, sitting next to you
- You must hold the CLP for 14 days before taking skills exams
- A CLP is valid for 180 days or when your Texas driver license expires, whichever is earliest
- A CLP can be renewed one time, up to 30 days prior to expiration, without needing to retake the knowledge exams
