I am doing some research and wondered how many of you Owner Operators actually use a dispatch service? After spending 25 years on the operations side of things I want to know if more about owner/operator life.

    Thanks

I like to book my own loads...I couldn't stand to have someone else in control of my life...that's too much like being a company driver for my taste.

I would think it would give you more control of your life. Not wasting hours looking at load boards, dealing with customers, and keeping track of everything else. Wouldn't you be telling the Dispatcher where and when you wanted to go?

    No.

I like my dispatcher within the company frame work. USUALLY but not always I am given a choice of runs to pick from as a reward by my dispatcher in years past. Some of my trucking is very basic with medicines. I just grab west coast loads out of Memphis and position them in Little Rock for our teams. Mindless work. No real dispatching needed. Its a very good form of freedom. I make the decisions on which west coast trailer can go to Little rock today. I generally move two or three every 24 hours.

Most O/Os are wise to the "dispatcher" game. As a rule, the only people who fall for that shuck are people who don't know any better.
If you've actually been in the business for 25 years you wouldn't be on here hustling work. After 25 years if you aren't well established with a solid customer base you're very probably not worth what you charge.

I am not selling anything. I have worked as an Operations Manager for YRC Freight, Fedex Freight, Southeastern Freight Lines. I started my career working a split shift for R&L Carriers on the dock. I have lived in 14 different states and have ran LTL operations for a long time. I also have a Class A CDL. I used to drive "SuperShockwave" A twin engine jet truck racing airplanes. I don't have a business as of yet, nor can I offer you any customers that I have never solicited. I was simply hoping for honest replies. Thanks for yours

Here's a contrast in styles between mine and yours-

I have a mini fleet and will put anyone that's qualified in a truck, for $0.

There's always lots of questions from people that are serious, although I typically can tell the pretenders from the contenders in the first three.

The one thing I absolutely promise them, is that they will get it shoved up their ### from time to time through no fault of their own. Still interested?
