I leased a 2009 Utility 48ft flatbed for $600 a month. I was told it was inspected and in top shape. On my second load a 36k lbs I noticed a terrible sag above the drivers side landing gear.... To make a very long 7 month story short..... Utility trailer ( Corporate warranty office ) had it measured loaded and empty and found a bad deviation and a bad beam.... no arch and it sagged. Mercer denies this and called me and Utility a liar...... It took 7 months before Mercer and Interstate trailer to do ANYTHING about this problem.... I turned in their junk and bought my own. No longer with Mercer. My coordinator was awesome, rates were good in some areas and terrible in a lot of areas.... A $1.40 a mile out of the west coast ???? Fuel is $ 4.00 a gallon and rates are still $1.40 a mile ? have to stay away from the west coast, south east and north east to make any money.

Dam shame that they are now leasing a broken trailer to another driver...

You should always and I mean always load test a used trailer. This means hooking it up to your truck, loading it with 45000 lbs and running down the highway for a good 25 miles with a buddy following you to see how it tracks. You will have to be creative on how to find 45000 lbs laying around that you can "borrow" for an hour, right ?

I was with Mercer for 3 years and purchased my used trailer from them with no problems whatsoever along the way. When the economy slowed down in 2005 I went back to pulling tank and turned the trailer back in to Mercer with no problem at all with maintenance. About 6 months after I left mercer I got a check from them for $2900 that I had overpaid on the trailer. Mercer has cheap freight just like everyone else from areas where there's an over abundance of trucks but overall they have good rates and honest settlements.

Please don't run Mercer down around me because they were very very good to me and my family and without a doubt Mercer is the most honest company I've fooled with in 38 years as an O/O. Jerry

"I was told it was inspected."

Sounds like you didn't even look at it and are now complaining. Hope you don't buy used cars the same way, if so, I've got a few "slightly" used Crown Victorias I'll sell you.

Right. Just how many trailer sales companies will allow you take a trailer they own, load 45,000 pounds on it and take it for a test drive. I have asked this question to sales companies........ Utility, wabash, great dane, and never had one allow this. As far as having to have someone follow you to see how it tracks........I can see how my trailers track by using the mirrors.

As far as the statement about the defective trailer Deputy881 made about the trailer being inspected and correct, I was there when he leased it. It did look good when he first got it and I was there the day the defect occurred.

High Seas......his point is.......they sold him a bad trailer and did not make it right.

Buford.......you opened this thread knowing something bad was going to be said about Mercer. So it is not him running down Mercer around you. You shouldnt have opened and read something you knew was going to be negitive about a company you like.

By the way.......I did like Mercer also, I just know the circumstances about this issue Deputy881 was in.

    Be safe.
