Got to have at least 3000 hours since my valves were adjusted and thinking of doing the job myself. Dealer says it's about $350 to do and extra if I need a gasket. Problem is dealer is almost an hour away, truck has to be cold for adjustment and I'll be there forever if I wait for it. Has anyone done the valves on one of these? Looks like all I need to take off is the air cleaner to get good access. Have done valves before on other diesels just not this one. I don't have the manual though.

I would not recommend doing it with out some type of manual. You will need to locate the timing marks. 1 on the front cover and 3 on the accessory drive pulley. You set a cylinder at each mark It will require a minimum of 4 complete revolutions to compete

Figured I'd ask here first. Probably should try and round up a manual. Maybe I can get someone to scan and email me the pages I need.

Try cummins quickserve.com. Not sure they have manuals for M 11

This is a general procedure that I use for inline 6 diesels. I usually set #1 at TDC, set half the valves that are on base circle of the cam (you can tell they are in base circle because they are the only ones that will "rock"). Then I bar the engine over 1 complete revolution back to TDC on #1, then set the remaining valves. I've never had an M11 opened up but I've never had an issue doing it that way on any other engine.

He say's that you need a dial torque wrench for the injector setting. Unfortunately I don't have one of those. I'm going to either have to see if someone has one to borrow or buy one if they're not too much. I believe the ISX is basically the same as the m11.

No the isx is not anything like an M11. The big difference you should see when you get the valve cover off..no visible cams on the M11 and 2 on the isx. Locate the timing marks on the front and the lash specs on the valve cover...better yet call Cummins and have them email you the sequence last thing you want is a valve to smack a piston.

Pay the dealer to do it and watch them. Do it yourself next time. Big risk of a F*** up to save $350, not me.
