Lightest I have seen is Kaplan Tarps, 14 ounce vinyl top and a weird airbag material on the sides which is very light weight. But not super strong according to one friend.
Are there any light weight strong tarps out there?

Tri city canvas sells 10 and 13 oz coated nylon tarps. Waterproof unlike the airbag material tarps and much lighter than vinyl. They will make the tarps anyway you want. I myself plan to get some 13oz top and 10oz sides made.

Thanks very much. I called them today and these sound like the best I have heard of.

I have only heard through the grapevine that lightweight tarps exist, i myself have never witnessed this unnatural phenomenom in person , it is only of the great mystery ever to be discovered in the wide wide world of the flatbedders, if such a thing should exist i would imagine it should be as rare as a bigfoot sighting

I bought a set of lightweight tarps in 1977.
They cost a lot of money, were rubberized, remained soft and flexible in -40º weather, and if they ripped it was always a straight line tear.
To repair them was called welding, or vulcanizing I guess, where they would put a patch on it and literally weld them together with heat and glue.

Come do food service, or work for a company delivering roofing. Those tarps are nice and light.

Every time I consider buying light tarps I have to untarp a load in 25+ mph winds and I reconsider.

Once in a blue moon I might have to tarp something and the company would only invest in those single use throw away tarps. Last year, they had me move a plasma cutter they bought used and wanted it tarped. I told them to invest in a decent tarp but what do I know, I'm just a steering wheel holder...
I sent a picture of my load to a friend who moves that kind of stuff all the time, telling him "I hate tarps"
His reply was "that's not a tarp, it's a pool cover"
