Do I need a truck before I get my own authority?

    I'm looking into getting my own authority within the next 12 months and starting a small fleet of trucks. Just wondering do I need the trucks before I get my own authority?

    You have to have insurance in place before your athority can go active.Dont know how you could by insurance with no truck

    Thanks. I've only been driving on the company side for 1.5 years and just trying to ask questions about my concerns/curiosity before I jump right into my own gig. And I will admit I'm a newbie.
    I don't know much about the owner op world. Again thank you for the advice.

    You may just want to start off with one truck first and see how it goes it alot different being a owner then just a driver .

    Start your LLC 1st. Then start the authority process. It takes 4 weeks. Get your truck in the 3rd week so you dont make extra payment and extra Ins payments. Gonna be about 8k for Ins. Authority will be about 1k. Im alreasy in the process. OOIDA is a key factor in all this. Oh yeah and a business plan.Good luck

    Typically, it is the common scenario to have a truck first. Then you can add more and more and more until you become JB Hunt.
