do i need a NY HUT sticker? i have a ram 3500. the website regarding who needs it is posted below but it’s not clear. My truck weighs 9000lbs without the trailer / load. it mentions below about if the truck gross weight is over 18k lbs. does that 18k lbs include the loaded trailer? cause if so then id be over the 18k. if not then im below. can anybody clarify?
    • A HUT certificate of registration is required for any truck, tractor, or other self-propelled vehicle with a gross weight over 18,000 pounds. (If you elect to use the unloaded weight method to file your returns, a certificate is required for any truck with an unloaded weight over 8,000 pounds and any tractor with an unloaded weight over 4,000 pounds.)

It sounds like a yes. When brokers or anyone else calls and ask would I go to N.Y. I explain that I gave up N.Y. and the rest of New England years ago.

Yeah freakin NY and all their #### rules. The company is ran out of NY and our best loads are going there. Now I gotta figure out how much this tax is going to steal from me.

    .0546 per mile for 80,000
Free if you take the toll road. Free as in you don't pay the 0.0546 you pay the toll instead.

They are coming out with a new sticker for 2019. 22nd or 23rd or whatever number they're up to now. I'd much rather pay a higher fuel tax instead of filing this extra garbage.

Just another $$ grab. If you are a leased contractor think the company you leased to is supposed to pay this. Way it was explained to me.It's on top of the IFTA money thats paid. Not paid with IFTA, just a little extra money that they so desperately need.

With how efficiently they spend it, I feel like lighting it on fire for some temporary heat value is more useful to me.

Who pays it is dependant on what's written in a particular contract. Doesn't make all that much difference. I would pay your ifta and fuel tax and never say a word to you about it if you were leased to me..............for 35%.

I suppose it could be written in a contract. But whoever has their authority to move the freight in NY.gets the decal, and they pay the tax. If a contractor signs and ok,s it to be deducted from their settlement , I guess its their deal. NY, I'm sure couldn't care less where the money comes from. Oh and 85% lol.

It used to be that a new sticker was required every year, yet this year there is no new sticker.
    Why?
And I don't see a different color on any other truck, so it is probably not just my company.

CA is much more a PITA than NY, IMO.

15 yrs ago I called NY And was reassured I no longer needed a sticker. Ran out there at least 20 times or more in first 5 yrs. Last time while there I learned it was still in force but sticker need not be displayed or werent issued whatever. Told $1000 fine plus Towing.I played hell getting out of NY .I sat out at TS till “Bear in the middle” was gone. Thankfully I didn’t get caught. Never been back 10 yrs. But I ran it filed fuel taxes and all never got caught. I guess you must have sticker on Truck again sounds like.

Yeah, tgey stopped the stickers for a few years and then started them back up again. As far as the sticker goes, as long as you have the permit in the truck, they don’t seem to bust your chops to hard.
