I went in today to take my General Knowledge test for CDL but I was hit with General Knowledge test for Class C and I was confused because it did not mentioned anywhere you have to take renewal written test for Class C. I spoke with the people in DMV they said the laws have changed since 2015 of last year, and they require you to take Class C test also. Did anyone else experienced this? I cannot find any information on DMV website or anywhere regardless?

P.S: I got my Class C licence in 2012 and have a clean record.

Did you ask them to show you the requirement?

They will simply not let you take the CDL test. The requirement is that you do what you are told, or the DMV will mire you in bureaucratic nonsense, paperwork, lines, and stonewalling. I lost a car, because the Registration office of the DMV refused to acknowledge that the vehicle was emissions exempt, due to age - and no one could give me an inspection sticker, because the emissions measurement machine could not test a car as old as mine... because it was exempt. So the DMV would not give me a registration sticker, and eventually the police impounded it for having an expired registration.

The requirement is that if you want what you want, and there is only one place to get it, you have to do what you're told. The DMV has no minimum customer service or performance standard, and they are in no way, shape, or form, responsible to you. If you don't like it, they have on-site security personnel, to show you the door - always a sign of high customer satisfaction.

Take the Class C test, and pay them if they ask you to, even if it's not really a statutory requirement. Call it a procedural requirement, if that makes you feel better about doing it. This is not a battle that you stand to win, and nothing is gaining by fighting it.

Yes... he will stammer and fume, and still accomplish nothing.

I get that government is frustrating, but when we are presented with nothing but idiots and crooks, we should really be able to just say "no". The job is better off not being done, than being done that badly.

    SHOJim Thanks this.

Call the Commercial Licensing Office in Sacramento. They only deal with CDL's, there are maybe 5 that work in there, and they are the ones the Field Offices call when there is a question. 916 657 5771, press 5
