Just checking to see if anyone has had a problem with mounting th fire extinguisher in the truck bed on the drivers side?
Do fire extinguishers need to be mounted inside the cab?

one truck i drove, it was on the drivers side, on the floor, between the drivers seat, and the door. one truck i drove, it was in the center of the floor, just behind the stick shift (day cab), another truck i drove, it was on the back wall (day cab, even a sleeper), one truck, it was in that outside compartment (which goes under the sleeper bed) on the drivers side.
if you get stopped at a scale or roadside inspection and the fire extinguisher is not "bolted down" you may very well get a ticket.Bean Jr., Friend, Diesel Dave and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes and no. Mine is bolted to the inside of the door on the sleeper. Gots to be bolted down or otherwise secured though, easy to access and if not in the cab then some states required it marked.

Has to be secured & has to be readily accessible, meaning you cant mount it on the floor, then put a bundle of tarp straps on top of it for example. Nothing on or blocking access to the extinguisher.
If you have it mounted in one of those brackets with a metal band on it, the band & latch has to be operable & secured. If the latch is not "latched" you can get a ticked for unsecured fire extinguisher for example.
You can put it on the outside but, its more likely to get damaged & it will be out in the environment/weather etc & more likely to be come damaged or inoperable.
DOT requires a yearly inspection tag "technically" but most DOT officers who have checked my extinguishers over the years have never said anything as long as its in good condition & the gauge shows in the "charged" area.
I do know for a fact that NFPA 10 regulations say it must be inspected & tagged once yearly. Otherwise, "technically" the extinguisher is out of date.
I do know our company requires us to get ours inspected & a new tag on it yearly.mjd4277, Val_Caldera and Lonesome Thank this. -

If in a side box it has to be accessible with out a key. My box is unlocked when I leave till I get home. Never had a inspection problem.
