I went to carmax in chattanooga 3 weeks ago and bought a jeep that was at their jackson tn store. Paid $199 transfer fee and they promised delivery in 7 days. Its still not here, but might be here this saturday. Carmax blamed the weather for late delivery first. Today they said they had a hard time getting a carrier to take it because the rate was low. Is this a familiar story? Do they have a good system for transfers? Care to explain more? Thanks in advance for the info.
Btw, if somebody can pick it up for me, that'd be great. Lol.
Do car haulers like Carmax?

Im not all that familiar with Carmax but $199 is pretty low. Not worth a carriers time to mess with it. If it was me and I was in Jackson, TN headed to Chattanooga I still probably wouldnt pick it up. Just not worth it. Im sure the transfer fee is the problem. Probably need to throw another $100-$200 at the transportation cost. Good luck.

LBZ Thanks this.

Ask for your $199 dollars back then have them pay you an additional $199 to go to Jackson to "transport" it yourself. That's what I would do.
i went to that carmax in Chatt a couple years ago when I was looking for a car. I wasn't impressed. The salesmen seemed pushy and desperate to make a sale. I took my business elsewhere and they kept calling me for 6 months asking if I was ready to buy yet, even after I informed them that I had already purchased a car. -
The $199 transfer fee is the customer cost. I was told this morning the bid was up to $350 with no takers yet. I don't blame transport for not wanting to do it if the money isn't right. I was just wondering if there might be more to it.

They have their own in house transport trucks. Met the guy that ran one of them in OH. Said he stayed mainly within a days drive of the Dayton, OH. So they must not have any other transfers to go along with yours either.

Doubt it. No one is going to undercut themselves. I'd be surprised if that even covered the hauler's insurance.

Most dealerships would have 2 guys drive over to Jackson and pick it up and bring it back to Chattanooga. Having a car hauled is a first-class method of transport. If Carmax can't afford it, then they need to find another way to get the job done, or tell the customer to go get it themselves.
