Who Is Required To Hold A New York CDL? You will need a CDL to operate any of the following vehicles: A single vehicle with a GVWR over 26,000 lbs. A combination vehicle with a GVWR over 26,000 lbs, towing a unit over 10,000 lbs GVWR.

There's a specific weight requirement for CDL. Any vehicle over 26000GWR all school bus jobs require CDL or if you drive a air brake vehicle other than non is required.
