do all of these new " plastic trucks" ride this rough?

    by plastic truck i am talking about freightliner cascadia, volvo , internationals and others made like them. i was driving a 2014 cascadia. it was an automatic, which i hated anyway. the whole time i had it i tried to clutch it then realizing it didnt have one, i felt pretty dumb. i finally got out of it and am going to get in an international prostar tomorrow. i wonder if it is going to be as rough a ride as the cascadia was. that truck was the roughest riding thing i have ever been in. now i know what the meaning of driver fatigue really is. that truck would pull to one side, shake like the tires were out of balance, and about jar you out of the road when you hit a bump. mind you this was a brand new truck and still had the plastic on the seat when i got in it. are these all this way? i have rode in an older pete 379 and it was as smooth as silk compares to that cascadia. my brother in law has the theory that the long nose trucks have the front wheels farther away from you and absorbs more of the shock for a better ride. is this true i wonder? in a way it kinda makes sense but i work on cars and pick ups so i dont know for sure. what are some of you alls thoughts and opinions of this? i do think they should get rid of the automatics for sure at least.i think they are dangerous as they only gear down when they are ready, not when you are ready. the one i had also would jump into high range while backing and start going backward a lot faster than it should have. do they all do this?

    that trk had some serious issues. but keep in mind most of the freight shakers,internationals are primarily fleet trk's. another words build it as cheap as possible light as possible with the least amt of amenities. drive them 3-4 years recycle and get another. most of the joints in steering drive train etc are sealed no grease required. so the fleets can can run the snot out of them only pull them in and do the minimal maintenance they can get away with. where as my trk is a t660 studio fully loaded with every option imaginable also a 300 inch whl base rides as smooth as glass.and everything is lubeable. and don't feel like i've been through a torture device at end of the day. but yes long wheel base trk's ride better. but sounds as though that cascadia was a piece of garbage.

    all i know is that this truck wore my arms and back out. i had to take goodys powders and wait for the pain to stop and my body to stop shaking in order to be able to lay down and go to sleep. i wondered if they all were that rough. i appreciate the info. hopefully the international will be better. i do like the way the kws ride. i have driven one once and loved it. my uncle owns it and he let me drive it down the road and back. i may even go to work for him later on. i would go now but his insurance wont cover m e due to my lack of experience.

    Yeah i would say that cascadia had some alignment issues and other things going on

    I literally feel your pain! I have the '14 Cascadia Evolution and I should buy ibuprofen by the truckload. My truck has been at the dealer since 6/30 with what i call a "steering float". I don't know what else to call what it does, I'll drive down the road like normal and suddenly my truck veers left then swings back right, but i'm still holding the wheel! It pulls but only when i"m holding the wheel, not if I let it go though. This is the second time in a year I've taken it in for this and Freightliner cannot figure out what the problem is. At first they told me it was a dry 5th wheel.

    tomorrow a "guru" from Freightliner is coming out to drive it and try to figure out what is wrong, because no one at the two dealerships I've been to has any clue what it is or what to do about it. The truck had 187 miles on it when i got it and was doing this from day one...

    No, they usually ride smooth, but float around like a weeble.

    I've driven a 12 and 14 that did that. It's getting tiring.

    I wasn't liking the seat very much, but I seem to have gotten used to it.


    Tire inflation is very important on the drives with the Michelin x2a, too high makes them ride bad and the tires cup and wear oddly, I suppose from that.

    I have 177k on a 2013 with a 216 inch wheelbase, and the one I have doesn't ride that rough.

    I heard brand new trucks don't get an alignment out of the gate.

    I drive prostar daycabs for dcs.....theres always some plastic moulding coming off....the doors get jammed stuck....I'm surprised these trucks weren't made in China
