I'm in Tucson and going to be a new driver. I'm looking at a few companies for 48 OTR, I'm not too concerned about ht but would like maybe 1 a month or once every 2 months. On to the question the nearest terminals to me are in Phoenix about 120 miles would that be reasonable distance where they would allow HT? Also would I be able to take the truck home instead my pov each time?

The policy at my company is if you live more than 50 miles from a terminal, you take your truck home. Otherwise, you park it at the yard. I live 100 miles from the nearest terminal so I take mine home. I get home every weekend.

If you are looking at Swift, they have a facility in Tucson...it is the DSW terminal...south east side of town. But generally, 50-100 miles from home terminal is the range for taking a truck home...usually not with a load on though, not good for security of the load.

Probably best you ask your employer. Their truck - their policy.

Yes, the question is, "Do you have some place to safely and securely park a full rig?"

This will be the most important question the company will want answered before allowing you to take the truck home. When I take home time I'm always taking a steak to feed the big bad pit bull guarding the fenced enclosure. Haven't had any problems with truck security. Gotta be quick with the steak, out of love for my fingers.

As they said above. That's very important. Can't always just leave it at a truck stop. Eventually it will get broken into or hit by someone there. Many of us find parking some pay some dont. I have a place to park my trailer that's is secure and then just bobtail the truck home.

With Swift, if it is not in a high risk area it is usually OK.

Even so, I took my truck and parked it on the street near San Diego with no problems.

It all depends on company policy and your DM.
But with Swift, anything past about 90 miles is too far to BT home.
