a classic xl is also a foot longer than a classic short hood or an fld--fld and plain classic are the same---other than that--like the guy said--only difference between fld and classic is hood and air cleaners

A short hood classic had a set forward axle and was also an FLD 120, 120 inches from front bumper to back of the cab, the standard FLD 120 had the setback front axle.
Any FLD 132 or Classic XL had the axle set forward. I have seen short hood classics with air cleaners under the hood as well as a Classic XL with the air cleaner under the hood and exhausts beside the sleeper just behind the door, sometimes just on one side.
The one difference not often seen on the FLD non classic was the turn signal lamp mounted on the fender with amber front and back. I have seen that turn signal added to a regular FLD. That setup is visible blinking from farther away than the standard with the turn signal right next to the low beam sealed beam headlight.
The sweetest FLD I have seen lately had a custom hood with the headlights and turn signals removed ,a round headlamp like a retro large car, and the turn signals located in the bumper.
The FLD SD has been replaced with the Coronado SD with a setback front axle. The frame is narrower and the front wheels turn farther from what I have been told.jamespmack Thanks this. -
It's a shame they quit making the FLD120 & classics. I personally think a classic is the best looking truck on the road, I would take one over a pete anyday.

Could you tell me what all you had to do to change the hoods out?
Thank you for your time.
